Leadership Team
Gina Intinarelli, PhD, MS, RN
Associate Chief Nursing Officer for Nursing Excellence, Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, UCSF School of Nursing, Vice President for Population Health Management, UCSF Health
Dr. Intinarelli is currently responsible for the direction, creation, planning, implementation, and evaluation of many large-scale clinical and operational programs and initiatives at UCSF including: Clinical Care Management, Commercial and MSSP ACO, the Clinically Integrated Network, Population Health Analytics and Ambulatory Quality, PRIME and Bundled Payment initiatives. In her previous role she successfully directed the UCSF DSRIP program (now PRIME) and led the efforts to implement electronic Sepsis Surveillance, E-consults and Medical Homes. She has over 20 years of direct clinical experience as a critical care nurse. She has earned both a Master’s degree and PhD in Health Policy from UCSF with expertise in phenomenology and organizational behavior.
Adam Cooper, MSN, RN-BC, NPD-BC
Director of Nursing Continuous Improvement and Affiliate Nursing Quality
Adam directs the development of Nursing Continuous Improvement strategies and collaborates with the UCSF Health Continuous Improvement team. In addition, he directs Nursing quality initiatives within the UCSF Health Affiliate Network collaborating with the UCSF Health Affiliates Network leadership. He also serves as the Director of the UCSF JBI Center. He is married to a nurse, has two kids, and loves jazz hands.

Dr. Francis is a doctorly prepared nursing leader with a vision to transform traditional nursing education and competency programs using inclusive and innovative strategies.

Analyst Supervisor
Christina provides divisional administrative support including office management, budget support, HR, and strategic planning. She has a young daughter and three dogs.
Justin Pohl, MEd
Director of Leadership Institute
Justin directs the UCSF Leadership Institute, a collaboration between the School of Nursing and UCSF Health, designed to foster the leadership capacity of the healthcare workforce locally, nationally and globally, through continuing education and professional development programs. The Leadership Institute is located within the Center for Nursing Excellence & Innovation.
Hildy Schell-Chaple, PhD, RN, CCRN-K, CCNS, FAAN
Director of Clinical Practice and Research
Dr. Schell-Chaple directs and leads clinical nursing practice services provided by Clinical Nurse Specialists, Wound Ostomy Care Nurses, and a Clinical Diabetes Educator who ensure nursing standards of care and practice procedures reflect current evidence based practice. She also leads the Nursing Research & Scholarship team of Nurse Scientists and Implementation Specialists who promote a culture of clinical inquiry and facilitate nursing research project design, implementation, and dissemination.
Meghan Sweis, MSN, RN, CNL, CPHQ
Director of Nursing Quality and Analytics
Meghan leads collaboration across teams to provide nurses at all levels with actionable process and outcome measures to support nursing practice and drive improved patient outcomes. She innovates to leverage data to create meaningful insight, support clinical decision making, and improve quality of care at UCSF Health.

Nursing Professional Development Specialist, Adult Acute and Transitional Care
Lindsay works with nurses and nursing leaders to identify and address clinical learning needs and provide nurses opportunities for professional development. Coaching nurses towards clinical leadership roles as Charge Nurses, Preceptors, and Evidence Based Practice Fellows is one of the most rewarding parts of her role at UCSF Health.
Brooke Clemons, MSN, RN
Nursing Professional Development Generalist, Clinical Instructional Design
Brooke designs and develops nursing education for online consumption. She supports the Nursing Professional Development team through project consultation and development.

Nursing Professional Development Generalist, Student and Practice Transition Accreditation Program Coordinator
Lauren is a partner for practice transition and liaison between the medical center and academic nursing institutions. She also supports the ANCC PTAP Accredited New Nurse Residency and ensures the program meets quality outcomes and national standards.

Esther oversees the learning and talent management system. Aside from helping to optimize the end user experience, she helps our team members use this tool in the most efficient way possible by taking part in the strategy and implementation of our initiatives around the professional development of our stakeholders.

Sherrie supports, teaches, organizes, and collaborates to provide education (from many formats) and staff development opportunities to the nurses who work in the Pediatric Critical Care Division, with an emphasis on orientation, training, and competency.

Simulation and Innovation Coordinator
Joseph facilitates innovative simulation-based and hybrid education in collaboration with clinical educators and subject matter experts. He produces training scenarios, videos, and multimedia content.
Dawn Pizzini, MSN Ed., RN, NPD-BC, CPN
Nursing Professional Development Specialist, Pediatric Acute Care
With a specialty in pediatrics, Dawn's role is to professionally develop and mentor UCSF staff with the goal of empowering development of knowledge, skills, and attitudes for providing excellent patient care in a collaborative and supportive team environment. Her passion is working with nurses who are excited about their nursing profession and who are seeking development opportunities.

Anjal provides clinical education and training support for the pediatric operating rooms as well as participate in centralized nursing programs and initiatives. She leads the Evidence Based Practice fellowship program and serves as the coach for the Professional Development Council.

Michael provides education, training, career development, and leadership growth to nurses practicing in critical care. He also designs curriculum and facilitates implementation of nurse training programs with a critical care destination.
Anthony Scott, MSN, RN, NPD-BC, CNL, PHN
Nurse Professional Development Specialist, Procedural Areas
Anthony provides clinical education and nursing professional development support to the following inpatient/outpatient procedural areas: Cardiac Cath/Electrophysiology, Endoscopy, Hemodialysis, and Radiology. Aligned with a variety of UCSF Health Committees and workgroups, he promotes the implementation of evidence-based practice, patient care focused on standards of quality and infection prevention, and the elevation of patient and staff satisfaction through dissemination and support of initiatives focused on diversity equity and inclusion and nursing professional development. He also supports change and advancement of nursing practice through project management and the design, development, and dissemination of content for in-person, virtual, and online e-learning activities.

Nursing Professional Development Practitioner, Clinical Care Partners
Michelle supports the education and training for Clinical Care Partners, such as Patient Care Assistants/ Technicians as well as participates in centralized programs and initiatives. She co-founded and serves as the coach for the Nursing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council and has helped to develop a program to support community members into the Patient Care Assistant role.

Nancy Lee, MSN, RN
Evidence Implementation Nurse Specialist
Nancy partners with nurse leaders and staff to assist with the creation and revision of evidence-based nursing policies, procedures, competencies, unit-based guidelines, protocols, and standards of care. In addition, she assists with educational programming related to EBP, and facilitates dissemination and uptake into practice of new knowledge and innovations by codifying successful projects into nursing policy and procedures. Nancy also serves as system administrator for the Department of Nursing policy/procedure content management system.
Christine Miaskowski, PhD, RN, FAAN
Adult Complex Care Nurse Scientist
Dr. Miaskowski provides expert consultation for nurse-led research across the UCSF Adult Care Health System (Ambulatory, Procedural, Inpatient, and Population Health). She is Professor and Vice-Chair for Research, American Cancer Society Clinical Research Professor, the Sharon A. Lamb Endowed Chair in Symptom Management Research, and Co-Director of the UCSF Pain and Addiction Research Center at the UCSF School of Nursing, Departments of Physiological Nursing and Anesthesia and Perioperative Care. Chris has extensive experience in the care of oncology patients and their family members. Her program of research focuses on the identification of demographic and clinical characteristics as well as biomarkers that place oncology patients at increased risk for a higher symptom burden so that individualized symptom management interventions can be implemented.
Sandra Staveski, PhD, RN, CPNP-AC, FAAN
Pediatric Complex Care Nurse Scientist
Dr. Staveski provides expert consultation for nurse-led research across the UCSF Pediatric/Family Care Health System (Ambulatory, Procedural, Inpatient, and Population Health). She is Assistant Professor at the UCSF School of Nursing, Department of Family Health Care Nursing. She is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who has extensive experience with the care of pediatric cardiac surgery patients and her program of research focuses on optimizing the care and outcomes for this patient population and their families.
Laura M. Wagner, PhD, RN, GNP, FAAN
Scholarship Development Specialist
Dr. Wagner is a faculty member in the School of Nursing and is working with nurses across UC Health to conduct nursing research. She is particularly interested in nursing research involving older adults, ambulatory and community settings, nursing workforce, and patient safety. She loves working with nurses and I love being a nurse!

Marilyn Bazinski, DNP, RN-BC, AGCNS
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Pain Management
Dr. Bazinski serves as a nurse expert in the assessment and treatment of pain, consultant, educator, and mentor for the nursing and interprofessional teams at UCSF Medical Center. She is passionate about mentoring nurses and teaching the importance of providing comfort and mitigation of suffering as integral to safe and high-quality nursing care. Marilyn is a leader in incorporating non-pharmacologic methods in pain and symptom management and has a clinical and leadership interests in pain management with a focus on geriatrics, transitions of care, and the value and outcomes associated with the Pain Management CNS role in healthcare systems.
Sarah Berger, MS, RN, ACCNS-AG, CCRN
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Medical-Surgical Critical Care
Sarah serves as a critical care nursing expert, consultant, educator, and mentor for the nurses and teams in the adult medical-surgical ICUs. She collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care for complex critically ill patients with multiple organ dysfunction, ARDS, sepsis, AKI, liver dysfunction, and oncologic conditions. Sarah leads the adult CRRT nursing program in collaboration with nephrology and critical care medicine colleagues.
Sasha S. Binford, PhD, MS, RN, PHN, AGCNS-BC
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Geriatrics
Dr. Binford serves as a geriatric nursing expert, consultant, educator, and mentor for the nursing and interprofessional teams at UCSF Medical Center. She is the Director of Nursing for the Age-Friendly Health System program and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure evidence-based care that aims to reduce delirium, support physical and cognitive functional status, and ensure successful transitions in care across the continuum.
Skyler Bivens, BSN, RN-BC, CWOCN
Wound Ostomy Clinical Nurse
Skyler provides expert care and consultation for care of complex wounds and ostomies. She provides education on prevention and treatment of pressure injuries to patients/families, nurses, and provider colleagues. She and the WOCN team lead performance improvement initiatives and implementation of evidence-based practice for HAPI prevention and wound/ostomy care across the adult hospitals.
Amy Larsen

Clinical Nurse Specialist, Neuroscience Critical Care
Amy serves as a neuroscience critical care nursing expert, consultant, educator, and mentor for the nurses and teams in the adult neuroscience ICUs. She collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care for complex critically ill patients with neurologic, neurovascular/stroke, and neurosurgical injuries and illness. Amy leads harm prevention evidence-based practice initiatives and supports the teams that provide advanced stroke nursing care to patients/families contributing to the Comprehensive Stroke Center designation at UCSF.

Clinical Nurse Specialist, Acute and Transitional Care
Melissa serves as an acute and transitional care nursing expert, leader, consultant, educator, and mentor for the nurses and teams for adult medical-surgical patients across the adult hospitals. She collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care for complex medical-surgical patients/families. Melissa leads safety and quality clinical practice initiatives, has expertise in nursing informatics, and serves as an expert resource for peritoneal dialysis therapy across the adult hospitals.

Clinical Nurse Specialist, Acute and Transitional Care
Michelle serves as an acute and transitional care nursing expert, leader, consultant, educator, and mentor for the nurses and teams for adult medical-surgical patients across the adult hospitals. She collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care for complex medical-surgical patients/families. Michelle leads the safe mobilization and fall prevention initiatives and leads collaborative practice initiatives to ensure safe continuous monitoring and suicide risk screening across the adult hospitals.

Diabetes Care and Education Specialist
Esther provides expert consultation an education to patients, families and nurses on diabetes care and management of complex diabetic patients in the adult hospitals. She leads quality and safety initiatives aimed to optimize patient outcomes and prevent harm.
Cass Sandoval, MSN, RN, CCRN, CCNS
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Vardiovascular Critical Care
Cass serves as a cardiovascular critical care nursing expert, consultant, educator, and mentor for the nurses and teams in the adult intensive cardiac care units. She collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to coordinates care for complex cardiothoracic, cardiology, and vascular critically ill patients. Cass leads harm prevention evidence-based practice initiatives and supports the nursing team who manage advanced life support therapies including ECLS/ECMO, VADs, IABP, and CRRT.

Benjamin Tanner, MSN, RN, CNS, FNP-BC, CEN
Clinical Nurse Specialist, Emergency Care
Ben serves as an emergency nursing care expert, consultant, educator, and mentor for the nurses in the emergency department. He collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure evidence-based care of the behavioral health and geriatric patients with emergency care needs. Ben serves on the medical center’s Transfusion Committee and supports safe transfusion practices.

Erin supports and serves as a resource to the UCSF Health System's clinical teams.
